Storm Katie leaves damage and travel delays!0
By - Posted 28th March, 2016 at 7:54 pm The Real World

Storm Katie has been battling parts of the United Kingdom yesterday and today, leaving many people in a sticky situation. Damage has been caused to peoples property and flights have been delayed.

The latest storm to hit the United Kingdom was given the name “Storm Katie” and it has been battling parts of the United Kingdom with strong winds and major downpours. This has caused travel disruption for the sky’s above and has caused damage to peoples property. The storm has also left hundreds of homes without power, and apparently… Katie is not done with us yet! Have you been affected by the storm? Let us know in the comments below!

It’s everyone’s worst nightmare, well most peoples worst nightmare… a storm coming to hit the area that you live in! That’s what’s been happening in the United Kingdom over this bank holiday weekend- storm Katie has been attacking anything in it’s path. It’s already left many flights cancelled or diverted, left hundreds of homes without power and caused so much damage around the country. Flights bound for London Heathrow and Gatwick airport were diverted to other airports and dozens of flights were cancelled as gusts of up to 106mph hit the south of the country. As it stands at the moment, there are around 200,000 homes without power during parts of the storm, and this has obviously caused mass disruption for people all across the United Kingdom. Apparently, the south of the country was the worst hit during this storm, and hopefully it’s all over now, but is it?

High winds from the storm left power lines damaged, with about 27,000 homes in England and Wales still without electricity. Many properties will remain without electricity until Tuesday because of the scale of the damage, power firms have said. There are roads closed across the United Kingdom due to tree’s falling down, power lines falling down and other things that occurred during the storm. Whilst there are currently road closures in place, at present there are no motorway closures- this is a good thing for all people travelling home from their bank holiday weekend get aways, haha!

In total over this bank holiday weekend, 72 flights have been cancelled so far and well over 50 flights diverted with travel disruption still going ahead. The strongest winds recorded were on the Isle of Wight, where gusts reached 106mph. However, other areas of the country experienced very different conditions, with snow falling in some parts of the Midlands. Apparently according to officials Storm Katie has moved away from most parts of the United Kingdom, however there is a strong chance if the winds change direction, that the south side of the United Kingdom could be hit again, as the storm is just on the edge of the United Kingdom at present. It has been confirmed if the storms stays on the correct pathway that it’s heading at the moment, the UK will be fully clear from Storm Katie late Tuesday morning!

Were you effected by Storm Katie? Have you still got strong winds, maybe it’s raining hard? What’s happening around you at the moment, is Storm Katie still around? Let us know below!
