Monster Storm Heading For Australia0
By - Posted 4th July, 2015

Like Australia haven’t suffered enough with all the flooding, but it looks like31jan_Yasi_800x600_fct800x492_ct254x154. there in for a monster of a storm, which is heading straight towards them

A large area of Northern Australia is bracing itself for the arrival of a ‘monster’ storm. One of the biggest cyclones, ‘Cyclone Yasi’, is 500km wide and is heading for the state of Queensland, which is already suffering from recent devastating floods.

Queensland Prime Minister, Anna Bligh, has predicted deadly surges inland and has described it as a ‘monster, killer storm’. The Cyclone could hit anywhere along the 400 mile stretch between Cairns and Bowen sometime late on Wednesday evening (local time).

The cyclone is said to be a Category 3 cyclone and is very likely to be upgraded to a Category 4, with wind speeds of up to 160 miles per hour. Some airlines are prepairing special flights to enable people to escape the area, but as the storm is so wide, finding somewhere safe will be difficult for tens of thousands of people.

I think i’m really glad I don’t live in Australia, but I do at the same time because at least its warm there.

Rihanna in the video for S&M

Two days ago, Rihanna premiered the video for her new single, S&M. Incase you were wondering, S&M stands for Sadomasochism, which is a form of sexual role play involving receiving pleasure from pain. Not a good start, ey RiRi?

The video has already been banned in 11 countries across the globe, MTV are considering airing a heavily edited version in place of the original, and it has been flagged countless times on YouTube. But why?

The S&M clip features Rihanna stimulating sex with a blow up doll, performing oral sex on a banana, leading Perez Hilton around on a dog lead, and making heavy references to other fetishes that are typical of porn films; like balls in mouth and whips. Obviously all in very minimal costumes which we as a society seem to expect from female pop videos these days.

The song itself features lyrics along the lines of “Sticks and stones may break my bones /But whips and chains excite me.” You can see the potential issues, right?

Click read more for the full article, but first click here to watch the video. You must have a YouTube account and be over 18 to view it.

Of course we have seen raunchy pop videos before, and heard controversial lyrics in songs, but S&M doesn’t even deliver the sexuality in a subtle way. For example, Lady Gaga’s Poker Face is about having sex with a man whilst fantasising about a woman. Who would’ve known?

On the familiar note of Lady Gaga, it seems like all the popular female singers of our generation are continuously trying to out do each other in terms of shock value. Whether it’s Gaga singing about riding on ‘disco sticks‘ in LoveGame, Ke$ha brushing her teeth with whiskey in TiK ToK, or Katy Perry begging to see our ‘peacocks’ in, well, Peacock, it seems that female artists are constantly feeling the need to push the boundaries to gain recognition. They say any publicity is good publicity, and it seems to be working in Rihanna’s case with the S&M video racking up millions of YouTube views in a matter of days, but is the controversy really worth the possible backlash?

At worse, the video and song could be completely pulled from TV and radio. Unlikely, but possible. They could always air edited versions, but the song is so littered with sexual content that the lyrics could become barely recognisable. This would seriouslyaffect the song’s performance in the charts, resulting in a failed single campaign. Once again, unlikely, but possible.

I’m sure there are many parental groups about that will campaign heavily for this video/song to be banned. It’s understandable, what parent wants their pre-school daughter dancing around and singing about how exciting chains and whips are, and how nice the smell of sex is?

Sex is a natural process that children will be curious about, and with modern day media aside they would be prone to Google it and find out more anyway, and potentially come across some pornography. However, S&M isn’t just sex. Curiosity could spark up in children after watching the video or hearing the song, and a quick internet search could easily lead to really young kids accidentally stumbling across websites with all kind of nasty films and images that could turn the stomach of a grown man, which could be really upsetting and damaging for a child to see.

But you know the worst part of it? The song is just so damn catchy.

Last Goodbye0
By - Posted

It has been a month since she died. I never thought it was possible to miss someone this much, until now. I was sitting in her office, secluded from the bustle of the office, alone, and yet still surrounded by her somehow, her belonging keeping her legacy alive. A framed picture of her and her boyfriend James sat in the middle of the desk, and a bunch on withering flowers, uncared for since she left us, sat by the door.

A footstep in the hallway alerted me to someone coming to interrupt my silent mourning. It was our friend Duncan.

“Greg? I… I found this in Anna’s office… It’s for you…” Duncan whispered, another tear slipping silently down his cheek.

He handed me a small, cream coloured envelope, simply addressed to “Greg” in her fancy handwriting. He must have found it in her locker, which he was in charge of clearing out – I was given her office. Ever since Anna’s tragic death, the office hadn’t been the same. Everybody’s spirits had been dampened; nobody seemed to smile anymore. They had lost more than just a boss – they had also lost their mentor and mother figure.

“Thank you, Duncan,” I said, faking a smile. Duncan and I have been suffering the loss the most, being her closest friends. There were so many things that I never had a chance to say to her. Almost as soon as I was left alone again, I tore the letter open. I was shocked to discover what Anna really had to say…

Greg,

There’s so much to tell you, but I guess I’ll start with why I need to write this. I know I haven;t dropped any hints or anything, but… I’m leaving. The board are constantly on my back about everything, James is becoming a crazy jealous, constantly asking questions about you and, pressure’s piling up too high. It’s too much to cope with. I’ve thought about this for a long time now. I can’t stay in New York any more in the same job. People will lose their respect for me, if they had any in the first place. I feel like I’ve gotten all out of this job that I possibly can.

So I’m leaving for a while. I don’t know if and when I’ll be back. I’m going to stay with my parents for a while. You never know, I could come home in a couple of months. But just in case I don’t, there are some things that I need to tell you whilst I had a chance…

I just sat there, my eyes wide with surprise. She was going to leave, she was going to give up – and it was partly my fault.

Thanks for everything. I don’t know if I could have survived this past year without you. I know it’s the sort of thing  I should be saying to James, not you, but… I’m not. You mean so much to me. You don’t understand how happy I  am every time you walk through my office door. It’s the best feeling in the world.

I had to smile at this comment. I wished I’d gone to bother her more often. She was worth it, and I started to ask myself why I didn’t find an excuse to see her every day.

I think I’ve worked out why it is that your opinion means so much more to me than anyone else’s. But it’s too difficult to explain in a letter. I suppose – I hope, one day, I’ll get the chance to tell the truth. How I really feel… However, if I never  see you again, I guess it’s better if I tell you now…

I could have sworn I hadn’t breathed since I opened the letter. My breath just stuck in my throat – she couldn’t possible feel the same as I had, since the day I met her – the feelings I had tried to cover for almost ten years.

You see, the thing is… I think there’s something there… We’re more than just colleagues or friends. That’s what makes it so hard. I had… still have so much to say to you, but I have to go. James is right – you mean too much to me and I need to go and re-evaluate my life.

Anyway, I’m sure I’m confusing you now. I’d better get going, after all, I don’t want to miss my train, do I? I guess this is goodbye – and I hope I manage to work up the courage to actually deliver this letter…

There’s just one more thing I need to say now.

I love you. Always have, always will.

  I’m sorry.

  Anna x

She loved me. She’d finally admitted it. But it was too late now. She’d been hit by a drunk driver on the way to the train station. She’d been pronounced dead on the scene, and there was no possibility of her coming back. I stood up and slowly glanced out of the window up at the sky, the clouds blurring with unshed tears, and I muttered the words that I’d wished to for so long.

“I love you, too…”

Well I was reading a dictionary earlier today and… oh wait, that sounds rather geeky.. allow me to rephrase. I was reading aSociology Dictionary this morning to help me out with some key terms and, while flicking through, I came across the word “internet.” Curious as to what the internet has to do with Sociology, I decided to read the entry; and I’m rather glad I did!Image of http://

It seemed to be outlining the history of the internet which I must admit was strangelyinteresting. The internet first started out in the 1970’s when the USA was involved in the Cold War. The US Government created the internet in order to, not only share information quickly with other people, but to protect communications in general in the event of a nuclear attack on the country. We can all complain about wars and violence, but just imagine if the Cold War never happened – you might not be reading this article now!

By the 1980’s, the internet had been developed as such so that it became ratheracademic. By making it academic, this meant that everyone could have access to a personal computer through the telephone line. It was beginning to have a purpose in wider society in terms of education and sharing skills with each other. But still, computers were very large pieces of equipment and they cost a fortune to produce. ICT lessons were unheard of and absolutely nobody could have imagined the scale of which they have eventually been produced at.

Apparently the Chairman of IBM said the following statement in 1943:
“I think there is a world market for maybe five computers,”

Amazed? Me too. Just imagine a world without computers and the internet.

Moving on, by 1995 there were only around 1 million users on the internet. I do find this slightly flabbergasting considering this is only around the time I was born! People however saw the incentive:  and saw what the internet offered, and by 1997 (in just two years time!), the amount of people using the internet had increased to 40 million. What a leap. I admit it, a giant leap for mankind indeed.

In terms of the amount of web pages; the year 1993 saw 130,000 yet by 1997 there were a whopping 30 million web pages on the internet. It really is truly staggering the amount of progress which can happen in a matter of two years.
It really does seem strange that 40 years ago, the internet had never even been invented.

We wouldn’t be surfing websites, playing online games, doing online shopping and to me – the internet really is the product of the 20th Century. Absolutely brilliant. Now, what will the 21st Century bring? Well that’s up to our generation and our children to figure out.

Rise Against's New Single!0
By - Posted

17hgekefhwrew.pngYou better sit down before I tell you this because I nearly fainted! Rise Against have released a single from their upcoming album Endgame which will be released March 15th 2011! So save up some money, grab your headphones and buy buy buy!

I am very excited to announce this as Rise Against are actually my favourite band but before I go on about how much I love them, let me tell you a little more about this amazing band! First of all you probably know them from either Kerrang Radio as they play them on there quite often or even off Guitar Hero games. My sister told me about this band and as soon as I heard a song of them I was already obsessed!

They’ve been very famous on Kerrang, especially with one of their songs off the album Appeal To Reason which was released in 2008 and that song obviously has to be Savior! One of my other favourite songs from this amazing and beautiful band is indeed Prayer Of The Refugee which was infact on Guitar Hero 3!

Now you know of the band here is the information about the best part of this article! Their sixth Studio Album will be coming out next month and I can not wait. They already have four confirmed songs and if Endgame is anything like Appeal To Reason then I shall be the first one at the store when it comes out! Being a band for 12 years now I hope that this album will not be their last!
