BRIT Awards 2011 Nominations Announced0
By - Posted 4th July, 2015
The nominations for the 2011 Brit Awards next month have been announced, with London rapper Tinie Tempah gaining the most nominations, with four nods.

New BRIT Trophy, designed by Vivienne Westwood

The ceremony is facing a make over this year, with new trophies designed by famous fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood, that were unveiled earlier today (picture on the right), and a new venue, with the ceremony to take place at The O2 Arena in London, as opposed to Earls Court Exhibition Centre, where it has been held in previous years.

With last years awards dominated by pop superstar Lady Gaga who took home 3 awards, the most of the evening, it looks as though the dominating prescence at the BRITs this year will be rapper Tinie Tempah. He has been nominated for British Male Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, Best Single and Album of the Year. This caps off a great 2010 for Tinie, after his debut album Disc-overy went to number one, and two of his singles, Frisky and Pass Out, both hit number one in the singles chart.

Plan B and Mumford and Sons both received critical praise for their albums in 2010, and this has been recognised by the Brits, who have given them three nominations each, including the prestigious Album of the Year, alongside Take That, The XX and the aforementioned Tinie Tempah.

The Best Single category is largely X Factor dominated, with singles from winner Matt Cardle (When We Collide), judge Cheryl Cole (Parachute) and past contestants Alexandra Burke (All Night Long) and Olly Murs (Please Don’t Let Me Go) all making the cut. Also up are Florence & The Machine (You’ve Got The Love), Plan B (She Said), Scouting For Girls (This Ain’t A Love Song), Taio Cruz (Dynamite), Tinie Tempah (Pass Out), and The Wanted (All Time Low).

Another fierce battle is set to go down in the Best International Female category, with the front runners Rihanna and Katy Perry, both of whom have had brilliant years with their albums Loud and Teenage Dream (respectively) both doing fantastically all around the world. They are joined in the category that was won last year by Gaga, by Kylie Minogue, Alicia Keys, and Swedish singer Robyn

Whats Her Name? Rihanna Makes UK Chart History0
By - Posted

Barbadian beauty Rihanna this week has made history, by becoming the first female solo artist to have five number one singles in the UK Charts in consecutive years.

Rihanna at the EMAsThe ‘Umbrella‘ singer also scores a chart double this week, with her latest album “Loud” topping the album chart, and her collaboration with rapper Drake, “What’s My Name“, climbs to the top of the singles chart, overtaking X Factor winner Matt Cardle‘s song “When We Collide“. Which is funny, considering the two singers sang together on the final of the show which led to Matt’s victory!

What’s My Name” makes it her fifth number one single in consecutive years, following “Only Girl (In The World)” in 2010, her collaboration with Jay Z and Kanye West, “Run This Town“, in 2009, “Take a Bow” in 2008, and her huge number one, “Umbrella“, released in 2007.

The 22 year old is only one of two artists to achieve this, alongside Elvis Presley who racked up his consecutive hits in the 1950s. This makes Rihanna the first ever female solo act to do this.

Confirming her undeniable domination of the charts right now is the appearance of her twice more in the top ten! Her previous single “Only Girl (In The World)” which also hit number one is this week at number nine, and her song with producer/DJ David Guetta, “Who’s That Girl“, climbs to number ten. Looks like there is no stopping Rihanna right now!

UKs Hardest Working Singer0
By - Posted

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR3S7j5eJ6tJ3xPwQb6wW0Peter Andre has been named as the hardest working singer in the UK, based on attendance figures at concerts.

Last year, Andre performed live to more fans then any other entertainer, earning him the title of ‘Britains hardest working singer’. During his ‘Revelation’ tour in 2010, he performed 38 concerts and sang to almost 100,000 people, beating the previous winners, Status Quo.

Andre’s singing career spans almost 2 decades from when he first started getting hits in his native Australia and then in the UK. In 1995, his hit single ‘Mysterious Girl’ got to number 2 in the British charts, but when it was re-released in 2004 after his appearance on ‘I’m a Celebrity’, it hit the number 1 spot.

Ten of his singles and four of his albums have made the top ten in the charts. Andre has said in the past he loves performing live, and thinks it is the ‘ultimate experience’. Most of his concerts this year were at arena venues including the Manchester Evening News Arena (MEN) and the 02 arena in London.

Peter Andre is amazing, and I am not surprised about him being named the hardest working singer, due to his massive tour. Congratulations to him!

Eminem on the big screen again?0
By - Posted

Just as you thought his 2010 couldn’t be beaten, 2011 already seems to be on its way to overcoming it. Eminem is in the line up to star in 2 different movies, each with their own hopes of success. 8 years after his successful screen debut in 8 Mile, he is at is again, and I personally can’t wait.

Eminem

The man who scored a number 1 hit with his recent album Recovery, is definitely on the road to… recovery. Having a few slips-ups over the past few years thanks to a number of personal problems, including but not limited to his drug addiction, he has slowly pulled himself up, brushed himself off and is now back in the game. Not only raring to go in the rap sense, but also ready to start his movie career once again.

The crime thriller, Random Acts of Violence will see him once again in the midst of trouble. The script has already seen a number of re-writes within the four years it has been in development. Eminem has yet to officially confirm, however he is said to be extremely interested in the role and is ready to take it on. That isn’t it for the King-Of-Rap, because he is also still being lined up to play a boxer in the upcoming movie, Southpaw.

At this stage in his life, I don’t think anything is going to stop him. The man is a true legend unto himself and to all those people that admire him so dearly.

Will you be watching Eminem as he returns to the big screen? Let me know below.

Lady Gaga Reveals Polaroid Collaborations0
By - Posted

Lady Gaga and Scott Hardy at the presentation in Las VegasMoments ago pop star Lady Gaga revealed the products she has been designing with legendary photography corporation Polaroid at a presentation in Las Vegas.

The two forces joined together to create Polaroid’s ‘Polaroid Grey Label‘, consisting of three different products designed by Lady Gaga, that will be released into the public later this year. The presentation held in Las Vegas by Lady Gaga and the chairman of Polaroid Corporation Bobby Sager was streamed live on the internet for fans to watch.

The first product was revealed onto the internet a few hours ago by Gaga’s close friend Perez Hilton. The product is sun glasses which can take digital photos, that are stored on a detachable USB device on the glasses. Gaga claims they are the first ever glasses that can take pictures. “Only Lady Gaga could create a hybrid that’s part fashion statement, part revolutionary technology and part tool for self-expression,” Polaroid said of the product.

Another product revealed at the presentation was a new portable printer device, that prints photos wirelessly via Bluetooth technology. To demonstrate the printer, the Bad Romance singer used her Blackberry mobile phone to take a picture of the audience, saying: “Smile! You’re so ****ing famous!” She then linked up the photo to the printer, and printed off a photo in less than 40 seconds.

The final product on the Grey Label is the new version of the good old fashioned Polaroid camera, which Gaga described as “sexy and slick.” Though I must admit, to me it was the least impressive out of the range.

With Gaga as the ‘new face’ of Polaroid, I am guessing this Grey Label range will be very successful! What do you think? Let us know by leaving a comment!
