Habbox wouldn’t exist without coding. Whether it’s making a new skin designed by the Graphics department come to life, fixing errors on pages for Content Design or adding new features to the site, they are an integral part of the Habbox machine.
The department has its origins at Habbox before ‘Habbox’ as you know it even existed: Mizki drafted her friend Sierk in to her new (at the time) fansite to help her build and grow it into the Habbox we know now.
The current department was made official in March 2015, where the two coders who had been working on Version 7 for months!
The current Site Manager is Scottish.
While normal members can’t access the code to edit it, suggesting new features to the coders and reporting issues or bugs that you find is always welcomed.
The coding department is very competitive to get into, and the current coders will be rigorously testing all new applicants to make sure they’re up to the challenge. If you think you’re up for it and want to give it a go, check out the jobs on offer by clicking here!
While coding is the most integral part to Habbox (we wouldn’t have a site without it!), it hasn’t always existed at Habbox. Various incarnations have made multiple appearances during Habbox’s history – especially to assist in development of a new version.
The longest-running incarnation was the Webpage Design Department, created in late 2004 by 8Freak8. This ran for three years before it was disbanded – with coders were kept on board to help with projects, and the Content Design department was created to design new pages.
The Content team and Coders work to update elements of the site – although the two teams rarely directly cross paths.
There have only been around 20 dedicated coders in Habbox’s history – although there have been more who have done things behind the scenes too, and the odd Content Designer who was able to bring new elements within the front-end content. Most of the coders have been long-standing members of staff who have proved themselves trustworthy with General Management before the reigns and sensitive information is handed over!
There are other technical staff members at Habbox who assist with updates to the forum, site, server and wiki – although these aren’t official Habbox Site Coders, they are trusted members who have dedicated themselves to Habbox in the past. Their expertise is crucial to further Habbox!
As the department has always been massively competitive, there have been very few coders over the years:

Site Coders all chip in with work – but to manage the workflow, an official structure was set up when the department was reintroduced in 2015!
