Habbox has come a long way since it first opened in 2003. It has opened new doors for everybody involved and changed the fansite and Habbo community for the better. So, let’s take a look at what really happened to make it as it is today!
Habbox was founded in the summer of 2003 by a Habbo named Mizki. It started as a small project and the founder didn’t expect it to go far, but it sure did, and she realized she needed help as this project was getting bigger and bigger. Sierk joined the team in 2003 as a developer and soon became a co-owner of the site. Since then, the fansite has held ‘official status’ and remained popular with all players. Then came :Jin: who, in effect at this point, was promoted to co-owner, as well as xxMATTGxx – a long-standing General Manager.
2003-2005
Sierk developed Habbox loads from what was originally on offer, and as he took a more active and managerial stance at Habbox, Mizki felt it was time to hand ownership from herself to Sierk. Brand new features came and Habbox started to develop even more.
Habbox then became one of the only official fansites which came with great rewards for Habbox, including new staff and other members. Habbox was voted ‘Best Fansite’ with an astonishing 60% of people.
Then came the bad news: Unfortunately at this time Habbox lost its official status as an official fansite.
2006-2008
After Habbox lost its official status, this didn’t put a downer on anybody and Habbox management and staff kept trying. It continued to be the best Habbo fansite within the UK and continued to strive. Loyal users stuck with Habbox and a lot more people came to Habbox. Over the next two years, Habbox started to grow and pick up strength. There were now three officially-affiliated sites with Habbox (HabboxLive – HabboxForum – HabboxWorld) all of which catered for many thousands of different people, from those who tuned into the radio and for those UK and international users who enjoyed chatting about Habbo, Habbox, real life, and everything in between on the forum.
Habbo then launched a new application process for fansites to become official and the public voted for Habbox to receive the title once again – but not only this, it was awarded one of the new titles of ‘Gold Tier Fansite’, for being one of the two most popular fansites, along with ClubHabbo!
A long story ahead… woooo, finally getting onto the good bit, 2015!
Version Seven was finally released for BETA users in Spring 2015. It had its official public release on 4th July 2015. The 3 year delay left many users feeling underwhelmed, but while the site is far from finished, it allows many departments to move on while the team of site coders can work on new features, which are expected to be added to the site regularly over the next coming months and years.
Habbox has also had a lot of other ‘developments’ over the years across different sites!
These are:
HabboxForum
HabboxLive
HabboxNews
HabboxTV
HabboxWorld
