Habbox was founded 15 years ago – in the summer of 2003 by a Habbo named Mizki. It started out as a small project, but she soon started to realise that she needed other people to help her with the site! This is where Sierk came to learn of Habbox and he and Mizki soon became very good friends.
As soon as Sierk took more of a development role for the site, he was then handed over the reins and – eventually- full ownership of the site, where he has stayed ever since.
In late 2009, :Jin: became co-owner of Habbox after many years working at the site, as Sierk no longer took an active role in the day-to-day running.
In 2014, long-standing General Manager, xxMATTGxx, took a step back from Habbox and joined Sierk and :Jin: in the co-owner role. xxMATTGxx resigned as co-owner in March 2017
Habbox currently has several departments, without which it would not be able to operate. These are:
Community departments (overlooked by Ozad)
• Help Desk
• Room Builders
Content departments (overlooked by Shonly)
• Articles (formerly known as news)
• Content Design
Other departments (overlooked by lawrawrrr)
• Site Coders
Although each department does not have the same involvement with Habbox and Habbo, the site could not run without each one. There are teams of dedicated staff members within each department, overseen by the department manager(s). They are in turn overlooked by a member of the General Management team, as shown above!
You can find out more about each department by visiting the Habbox Departments pages.
Habbox has had many large-scale projects and departments whilst popular in the past. Many of these services no longer serve a necessary role or were shut down to lack of staff/people using it.
The main discontinued projects are UploadPicz, Habbox TV and HabboxWorld, although others have been dissolved in the past, including Habbox Hogwarts, the Productions department. Discontinued projects include old versions of skins – which was mainly to make way for bigger and better things!
