So being a new Article Writer here on Habbox, I was scratching my head trying to think of an interesting article to write, and usually I’m quite creative, but I guess when you’re put on the spot, your mind just goes blank; well… It came to me!!! What am I most in the know and familiar with that I could possibly write about…?
So as I am new, none of you will know that I am a self taught makeup artist of 9 years!
Yep, that’s right; 9 years ago I was watching random Youtube vids (as you do) when I stumbled upon Lauren Luke (Panacea81) who was like the makeup TOP DAWG of YT back then, and that’s where my love for creation with cosmetics started.
Anyways, so 9 years on and I currently have my dream job (in real life) working for a HUGE online beauty company as a Content Editor; so as I have tried and tested endless beauty products I thought I would share some of my beauty MUST HAVES and review them for you, as some of you out there may want to try them for yourself!
• Maybelline Brow Tattoo Eyebrow Tint – Boots & Feelunique RRP: £12.99 ★★★★★
– 3 Shades Available: Light Brown, Medium Brown & Dark Brown.
The shades are really ideal, and it is really quite easy to apply with its brush-on applicator. The staying power is supposedly 3 days, however I found that it faded within 2 days which was a little disappointing, plus it is a little pricey, but nonetheless, it peels off super easy, it’s easy to use and tints SO WELL!
• Laura Mercier Transluscent Loose Setting Powder – Feelunique RRP: £29.00 ★★★★★
Well, there’s not much I can say apart from that this is my HOLY GRAIL! I have dry skin, so powders aren’t my best friend, but boy-oh-boy does this powder do its job. It is so lightweight on the skin, blending into your base so smoothly, and to be honest, a little bit really does go along way, so you do get what you pay for, as one pot can last you a LONG time. It’s definitely worth the investment!
• Maxfactor 2000 Calorie Mascara – Feelunique RRP: £7.99 ★★★★☆
I’ve always known (from reviews online) that this was a good mascara, but it wasn’t until I actually purchased it that I found out for myself. Firstly, it does NOT clump (hallelujah), secondly it gives beautiful definition and pigment to the lashes and thirdly, just the right amount of buildable volume. However, you won’t get any more of a dramatic effect (like you do with colossal mascaras) which is why I only gave 4*, but I will stick by that I LOVE this mascara and would buy it again.
• Dove DermaSpa Revived (Gradual Self Tan Body Lotion) – Boots Current Offer: £3.89 RRP: £7.79 ★★★★☆
Now, I don’t know about any of you guys and gals, but I am SUUUPER pale… enough to blend in with A4 paper (light jokes lift the heart), and I hate it, but trust me when I say, I cannot pick up a tan for the life of me and it’s frustrating, so the only next best option I have is to fake tan, and even though I do it very occasionally, I like to have an even looking and natural tan, and that is EXACTLY what Dove DermaSpa gives you!
It’s a super soft moisturiser with a tanning complex that allows you to build up a nice gradual tan overnight, and it’s pretty much 90% patch free. The only downside is you smell of fake tan once applied for like 2 days, and it takes ages to dry as the moisturiser sinks into the skin slowly, but all in all, it would always be my first choice!
• NYX Professional Makeup Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick – Feelunique RRP: £7:00 ★★☆☆☆
I bought a couple of these when they were discounted, as I love everything about liquid lipstick; the staying power, the finish, how you can create ombre effects so smoothly… Well, I’ve only used these like 2 times, and they just don’t do it for me whatsoever. Don’t get me wrong, the staying power is good initially, BUT, they begin to flake quickly and your lips end up looking like a disaster struck. The shades are really pretty but very warm, so not really for my kinda skin tone, and I noticed that once applied, the shade deepened, which, with me having pale skin, made me look ill.
They are also very drying on the lips which is a big NO-NO for me when it comes to liquid lipstick, so my advice is… STAY CLEAR of NYX for liquid lipsticks and if you’re going to invest in a liquid lipstick, invest in one that is worth the hype (do your research and watch YT videos, read reviews and sample them in store if possible).
