After years of alcohol and drugs abuse, she apparently “crumbled under stress” and died of causes unexplained say Metropolitan doctors. At 15:54 BST this afternoon, the emergency services and two ambulances were called to the scene. She was announced dead before the vehicles arrived.
Last month, she planned a string of comeback concerts all across Europe. On the opening night, held in Serbia, she performed the full 90 minutes heavily intoxicated and occasionally went off stage leaving her accompanying band to improvise or play the same songs but without vocals! After being booed from the stage she canceled the remainder of the tour, leaving many fans disappointed.
Many celebrities send their best wishes to her family and former husband Blake Fielder-Civil.
“Can not believe the news. Amy was a special girl. The saddest news.” BBC Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton
“OMG. Amy Winehouse. Exceptional talent and a really nice lady. RIP.” Media Personality Myleene Klass
“Sad sad news of Amy Winehouse – great talent, extraordinary voice, and tragic death, condolences to her family.” Former British PM’s Wife Sarah Brown.
Amy shot to local fame in 2003 after releasing her first album, Frank, earning her a prestigious Ivor Novello award specifically for songwriting and composing. Past recipients of this include Robbie Williams, Britney Spears and Madonna. Her second album Back to Black secured her worldwide fame, taking in a gargantuan 5 Grammy awards, the top end of musical stardom.
Her last public appearance was Wednesday evening alongside her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield, also making a dent in the music industry, at the Roundhouse in Camden.
I send my personal sorrows to all that knew her, as do the entire Habbox team. Please leave your opinions on her life, music and death below.
