United Airlines flight 990 to Accra, Ghana had to make a dramatic emergency landing after a argument between passengers accord. The flight was escorted back to Washingtons Dulles international airport by two F-16 fighter jets which had been dispatched from a Maryland Airforce base.
According to a report in The Washington Post, a passenger was assaulted after he reclined his seat very closely into the lap of another passenger not long after the flight had taken off. A scuffle ensued, which was broken up by a flight attendant and another passenger.
The captain of flight UA990 returned to Dulles international airport as a precautionary measure. A United Airlines spokesman said that the safety of customers and crew is of prime importance.
