For months on end, Lady Gaga’s fans (her ‘Little Monsters’) have been waiting for the release of her brand new single Born This Way. Yesterday, it was finally unveiled, and Gaga is literally on top of the world.Born This Way

With a worldwide radio premiere happening simultaneously across the globe, the internet was buzzing from Twitter to Facebook to forums speculating what it would sound like, and whether it was going to become another smash for the PokerFace singer.

In true Gaga style, in under 24 hours of release it has already broken records. It climbed to the top of the US iTunes chart in a mere three hours, being the only song ever to do so. It also was the most played song on US radio in one day in history, being played a huge 2,445 times, destroying the previous record held by Britney Spears’ Hold It Against Me, which hit 619 plays. This has nicely set up Born This Way to be a huge contender to get the 1000th number one on the US singles chart this week.

Last but definitely not least, it is the only song ever to chart at number one at the same time on every single iTunes chart across the world in existence. All in less than a day!

Despite the song’s record breaking chart performance, reviews of the single have been somewhat mixed. Fans of the performer and many critics raved about the single, while a lot of people claimed it was simply a rip off of Madonna’s 1989 hit Express Yourself. There are definitely similarities!

While there are obvious similarities to Express Yourself, I don’t see why people use that as a reason to dislike Born This Way. I’m pretty sure Gaga didn’t go out of her way to copy Madonna, and as long as her fans are happy I would wager she doesn’t care either!

It’s certainly not her best single, but I find the song growing on me with every listen! What are your thoughts on the song?
