This week, Sulake celebrated Habbo’s biggest landmark yet. On Thursday, it was announced that 200 million users worldwide have signed up to play on Habbo Hotel.
In the first week of January, the 200th million Habbo was said to be created somewhere in the United States. Exactly who this Habbo is remains a mystery – but surely they deserve some kind of amazing badge!?
Since it first began in Finland back in 2000, Habbo has become one of the world’s most popular virtual community amongst teens, with people from over 150 countries logging on every single day. Back in June 2008 they reached 100 million registrations, so the two and a half years it took to add the second 100 million onto the total up against the 8 years it took to get the first shows just how much Habbo is growing.
Last year, was not only Habbo’s 10th anniversary of existence, but also the most successful year for the hotel, with around 42 million unique visitors logging in, over a fifth of the characters ever created, spending a massive total of 400 hours on line between them.
Timo Soininen, CEO of Sulake was overwhelmed with the news, stating: “It’s been a wonderful journey to see Habbo Hotel grow during the past 10 years from a small Finland-based virtual community to a service reaching millions of users every month worldwide. Celebrating 200 million registrations is truly a milestone for us. The fast, continuous development of Habbo Hotel has enabled us to make quick changes and create new features according to our users’ needs. We are excited to reveal many fresh and exciting features and improvements in 2011.”
I’m sure me and the other 199,999,999 Habbos are pretty excited too!
