Seven long years after Hurricane Katrina the Gulf Coast will be experiencing yet another Hurricane. This time it being Hurricane Isaac who could test the physical and social improvements made since 2005. Thousands of people have fled from the US city of the New Orleans as Isaac makes a slow approach. The city have also closed the new floodgates in a bid to protect it from the high waters brought by winds of up to 80mph. 

 

Isaac has already killed at least 24 people in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Even the Caribbean have suffered some significant flooding and damage due to the Hurricane. There are storm warnings in place for some parts of Florida, Texas and Alabama although officials say Isaac is likely to weaken before it reaches the New Orleans. “We do not expect a Katrina-like event but remember there are things about a Category One storm that can kill you” said the New Orleans Mayor, Mitch Landrieu. Let’s hope Hurricane Isaac settles down and doesn’t cause too much damage.
