One of Kenyan’s marathon champions dies
Samuel Wanjiru, the Kenyan Olympic marathon champion died after he jumped off the balcony of his home. Police are unsure whether the twenty four year old Wanjiru had killed himself deliberately by jumping off the balcony in Nyahururu, in the Rift Vally.
Samuel Wanjiru suffered internal injuries as a result of the fall and was confirmed dead by doctors at a nearby hospital. The area’s regional police chief said that it was not clear if Wanjiru had committed suicide or jumped in rage after a possible love triangle, when his wife came home to find him in bed with another woman.
She then locked them both in the bedroom. Samuel Wanjiru was the first Kenyan to win an Olympic Gold medal in the marathon, which he won in the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
