A parrot which disappeared for 66 days has now been found after apparently setting up home over the winter in a hen house. Jack, a blue fronted Amazon, began clucking when he was found, which was thought to be a sign of where he had been sheltering.
The 12 year old bird had flown out of an open door at the home of owners Jerry and Irene Williams in Prenton, Liverpool on November 21st 2010. He made it through the coldest December for 100 years before being perched on a fence by a tropical aviary at Chester Zoo, which is 15 miles away.
The zoos head parrot keeper, Andy Woolham, said that he enticed Jack down with a grape as that is something parrots can’t resist. He added that if Jack had not found shelter and food, he would have been killed by the cold. He has now been reunited with his very happy owners.
I’m amazed on how long the parrot survived on its own, but I had to laugh at when they found it, it started clicking like a chicken because it spent so long with chickens.
