On the 29th March 2011 the last part of turf for the 2012 stadium was been placed by International Olympic Inspectors.
The project’s budget has been £9.5bn and it started in May 2008. The stadium may have been built, however the London 2012 chairman Lord Coe Said: ”We wouldn’t want anyone to run away with the idea that this stadium is ready to stage an Olympic track and field championship tomorrow. With one year and a few months to go, this is a great place to be” The venue itself has over 700 rooms (yes you did just read that right) which still need to be completed.
The actual track will be added to the stadium later in the year. This is so that the track doesn’t get damaged by cranes used to install equipment for the games
The Olympic Delivery Authority said the building work had an ”exemplary safe record” John Armitt chairman of the ODA said”The Olympic stadium has been finished and under budget. To complete a complicated project such as this in less than three years is testament to the skill and professionalism of the UK construction industry”
