As many of you will already know, all Habbo Hotels were muted after a ‘bad press’ report from Channel 4 News sparked off a huge debate. After the development of a new safety software, the unmuting of all of the hotels has begun. This has been named ‘The Great Unmute‘.
As part of their commitment to safety, Sulake have made the decision to set up a parental ‘council‘ to advise on safety matters within the hotel. This council will contain 2 members from each country that Habbo caters for, creating 20 positions in total.
These members will have discussions based around 2 main questions. These are;
- What can we do to deliver a safe and innovative experience for the teenagers and young people who use Habbo?
- What can we do to support parents in educating young users in the importance of responsible behavior on social media sites?
Discussion with parents about this matter is intended to ensure that no undesirable material is posted on the site and that there will be, therefore, no reason to take the action to mute all hotels again.
But will this help or will parent involvement further harm a already delicate situation?
