Well it’s a new year at last, but I can’t help but think about the progress, or rather lack of progress in the “noughties” (don’t get the wrong idea!). What has mankind significantly achieved since the year 2000?
The 20th Century (1900’s) was such a massive turning point for us. We were treated to radar, abortion, the atomic bomb, the microchip, teabags, the internet and of course Viagra. We managed to put man on the moon and Disney was started – but what have we achieved so far in the 21st Century?
Can’t think of anything? I couldn’t either, so I had to Google it. Let me tell you: self-cleaning windows, a couple of science magazines and a bike made of ice.
Depressed? Me too. In the past 10 years, we’ve had countless terrorist attacks, wars and general violence; but when we strip away the crap, what are we left with? Next to nothing. Admittedly this bother has made us tighten our security – and it’s such a shame that it takes thousands of deaths to make changes.. but it still doesn’t really answer my question – what have we achieved, of any importance, since the Year 2000? I’m afriad I’ll have to leave that for you to answer.
In my opinion, I think the best thing to come so far from the 21st Century is the Conservative Government. Yeah, I said it. My reasoning will have to wait for another day.
Happy New Year all!
