5 Ways To Keep Yourself Busy This Summer3
By - Posted 4th August, 2017 at 6:00 pm The Real World

Do you ever find yourself bored for days with absolutely nothing to do? Have you finally come to the realisation that you’ve spending too much time indoors on Habbo Hotel? Don’t worry, I’m sure this article can save your life, click below to reveal 5 ways you can keep yourself occupied this summer!

It’s not uncommon to feel bored in the summer months, especially with the British weather being as unpredictable as ever. Despite having previously seen the summer as an opportunity to spend as much time in bed as I like without feeling guilty for avoiding my responsibilities, this year I’ve been trying my very best to stay productive and make this summer one that is memorable. After seeing a tweet about someone complaining that they don’t have the expenses to have a fun summer, I thought it’s important to mention that I’ve tried to keep my ideas as low budget as possible with the majority of them being free!

1. Take a walk

Last year my dad and I got into a routine of going for a walk every evening around 7pm and setting ourselves a daily goal of 10,000 steps. It definitely improved my health and fitness over a period which used to be my prime time for playing video games and being a couch potato. This year I’ve been more adventurous with my walks as me and my friend began by walking around a local nature reserve once a week, then we gradually branched out to finding new places such as reservoirs and parks.

2. Visit an art gallery/museum

They say that the best things in life are free which is definitely true when you consider what a great day can come of an easy visit to a gallery or museum. Whilst helping boost your own creativity, these places are also an amazing way of broadening your cultural awareness and general intelligence. Not to mention a quick browse around the gift shop is always fun, regardless of if you end up buying something or not.

3. Support local businesses

I once spent a few days volunteering for a petting farm in my area and although it was only a short lived affair, it managed to keep me occupied outside of the house for some time. Although it’s understandable that not everyone has a petting farm on their doorstep, there are plenty of other organisations you could find which might include a small cafe or a local grocery store. Whenever I take a trip into Manchester, I enjoy trying new food and I’ve discovered some of the best places I’ve eaten aren’t from the large restaurant chains but are in fact founded in the heart of my own city, for example I recently discovered a new Poké bar which served food that was healthy, tasty, inexpensive and locally owned (vegan too!).

4. Have a chill day with friends

This one is probably the most basic of all ideas however some of my most memorable days this summer have been days where my friends and I have just had a house gathering and relaxed together. Just a few things you could consider doing include having a movie night, baking together, watching Netflix or playing games together. Once a week me and my friend have a chill day at his house, this week we ended up playing Super Mario Sunshine for hours and it definitely distracted me from the bad weather outside.

5. Keep a journal

How else to remember your summer than to keep a journal entailing a log of all of the lovely memories? With the length of summer holidays being so long, it’s easy to let some plans slip to the back of your mind and therefore I made a journal in which I can write down what I’ve done every day so that in the future when I look back on the summer of 2017 I can review all of the fun things I’ve been up to at ease. Adding pictures, tickets and other memoirs can give your journal a personal touch, will make the nostalgia hit harder and just make it appear more aesthetically pleasing overall.

What’s your favourite way to keep yourself busy over the summer months? Drop a comment below and maybe I’ll take some inspiration from your ideas when I’m making plans in future!
