On a black summer’s evening,
As the lightning cracks the sky,
And the rain descends from the heavens above,
The air is split by an evil cry.
While the darkness is falling,
Blooming into night,
On the plains of death an army masses,
Extinguishing the light.
Wicked laughter rings,
As the fires of hell scorch the land
And fly upon black wings.
As shadow flows across the realm,
Consuming all it meets,
People perish in flames of ruin,
Burning in the heat.
Demonic forces ravage the world
That once was green and lush,
The vivacious life that once was there
Drowned by evil’s hush.
Innocents’ bones litter the earth
And the rivers run red with blood,
The crimson fluid of life
Churning into mud.
Centuries of darkness pass,
Filled with death and pain,
And through the hell that plagues the world,
Darkness maintains its reign.
But somewhere in the distance,
The clouds begin to break.
A heavenly light shines through the gloom
And the ground begins to quake.
From the shining rift
An immaculate light emerges
And from fissures in the earth
A wave of darkness surges.
Then the rival forces meet,
Clashing way up high,
Light and dark and dark and light,
Roiling in the sky.
An eternity it seemed to last,
That battle far above,
And with what seemed its dying strength
Over darkness light triumphed.
Then all there was was silence
Across the desolate plains,
And though it seems that light had won,
Still there was evil’s stain.
And even though the land was scarred,
The sun began to shine,
And the people of the land returned,
Seeking what solace they could find.
Though death will forever be,
That is nature’s way,
Through the dark and hurt and pain,
Hope will find a way.
