Internet safety is something that has always been promoted by Habbo. Whether it be through official campaigns, quests or schemes such as ‘Hobbas‘ or ‘Guardians’‘, Sulake always try to appear as if they are promoting the safe use of the Internet and the Habbo Hotel site in all of their actions.
Yesterday Sulake uploaded some new codes and a badge to the Habbo servers that imply they are going to be running a campaign related to the ‘Safer Internet Day’ that is held in February each year. Safer Internet Day is a scheme that is run by Insafe, a company whose sole intention is to promote safe use of the internet (and mobile devices) by young people. They use the motto ‘connect with respect‘ to show what their aim is, to ensure that everyone can enjoy the internet whilst also respecting one another.
I have always thought that it is essential for companies like Sulake to promote the safe use of the Internet by everyone, not just children. People can often use social networking sites such as Habbo as a way to share views that they would not dare express if they were face to face with someone else in real life, but they feel confident to share on the Internet. It is important that people do not have this view as it ruins the experience of the Internet for everyone, and it can lead to problems in life. It needs to be remembered that the Internet is a fantastic resource, but it should not change the way that people behave around one another. It is now a reality that technology can start wars, but it needs to be remembered that life can exist without technology, but technology cannot exist without life, something that is often forgotten when you must have the newest technology on the market.
You have heard what I have to say, but what do you think about Sulake supporting causes such as the ‘Safer Internet Day’ campaign?
