The Grand National0
It’s that time of year again when the biggest event in Horse racing is upon us, The Grand National!
Each year, 40-odd horses are pitted against each other to win the most prestigious race in the horse racing calendar.
The Grand National is a National Hunt horse race held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, England. First run in 1839, it is a handicap steeplechase over 4 miles, 3½ furlongs, with horses jumping 30 fences over two laps. It is the most valuable jump race in Europe, with a prize fund of £1 million this year.
What makes this race so unique is that, more often than not, the outsiders stand a good chance of winning, so you don’t need to have a great knowledge of horse racing at all, it is all down to how the horses performs on the day.
Last year, the 66/1 horse Pineau De Re won, proving my point that anyone can win. I’ve actually yet to win on a Grand National, but last year I came pretty close with Across The Bay, who unfortunately was run off the field by a loose horse.
If you bet on the horses, I wish you luck! Let us know how you get on.
