The light flickers and fades behind my eyes,
Tears that streak along my cheeks portend,
That every night, for you, I cry,
As forever slowly comes to an end.
I’ll carve your name into my arm,
Thus wearing my heart upon my sleeve,
You can’t promise my heart won’t come to harm,
But if you did, I would believe.
So promise me you’ll stay,
Cross your fingers and your heart.
I don’t think I could live that way,
So promise… it’s a start.
Sure, I’ll know you’re lying,
But it’ll help me sleep tonight
I hope you understand I’m dying,
Just like that light that burned so bright.
