Wimbledon has gotten off to a wonderful start, and this report will be summarizing the events so far…
To start, Round 1! Firstly, favourite and top seed Rafael Nadal beat a terrified Michael Russell 6-4,6-2,6-2. British favourite Andy Murray also won his match easily, starting badly to rise up and destroy Daniel Gimeno-Traver 4-6, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0! 23rd seed Janko Tipsarevic resigned after losing 2 sets due to injury, allowing an easy victory for Ivo Karlovic. Andy Roddick from the USA also won, but much less impressively, according to BBC commentators. Roger Federer had a similar win, but was even more slated due to high expectations as 3rd seed.
In Round 2, Nadal won once again, but closer than before, beating Ryan Sweeting 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Andy Murray once again delivered, in a match against Tobias Kamke that I personally watched intently, and after pulling through from 4-5 in the 3rd set, he knocked up a further 3 to win! The 2nd round also did not produce a seed against seed match, with seeds as high as 13th being eliminated by even qualifiers!
The next round, currently the last to be played has already produced some big matches, with many being held because the rain poured during the height of 3 crucial games. Andy Murray was one of 3 to be finished, unsteadily winning against Ljubicic 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 77– 64. Other matches to watch later this week are between Nadal & Muller, Djokovic & Baghdatis, Soderling & Tomic and Almagro & Youzhny.
What do you think? Who would you like to face in Wimbledon, if anyone? And who’s matches are you looking forward too?
