A 100-year-old British man has broken even more records, after completing a marathon!
For those who regularly check-up on real life news, you will remember that we produced an article on the 100-year-old man who broke 8 records for running. We also mentioned that he would break an 9th if he completed the marathon he was going to take part in, and… he did it! Fauja Singh, from Ilford, East London, ran the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in eight hours, 25 minutes and 16 seconds.
Mr. Singh had previously broke 8 records for the ‘Over 90’s running category’ after taking up running only 11 years ago, and was determined to complete a marathon. In the marathon, the record-holder “hit the wall” at 22 miles but soldiered on for another two hours and finished in 3,850th place, ahead of five other competitors.
His coach and interpreter Harmander Singh said Mr Singh was “overjoyed” and “Earlier, just before we came around the (final) corner,he said, ‘achieving this will be like getting married again’. He also said that “He’s absolutely overjoyed, he’s achieved his lifelong wish.”
If you want to know Mr. Singh’s secret to a long life… here it is: “The secret to a long and healthy life is to be stress-free. Be grateful for everything you have, stay away from people who are negative, stay smiling and keep running.”
That’s a pretty outstanding story. A 100-year-old marathon runner, there’s something you don’t see every day!
