2 coffees a day keeps the depression away!0
By - Posted 4th July, 2015 at 9:23 pm

New research from scientists has shown that women who drink 2 or more cups of coffee a day are less likely to get depressed!

Researchers reckon that the caffeine in coffee (excluding decaffeinated coffee) alters the brain’s chemistry and has the effect of stopping depression. The research has been carried out on 50,000 US nurses to ensure the results would be reliable. Also, a similar experiment has shown that women who drank 2-3 cups of coffee a day had a 15% decreased risk of depression and women who drank 4+ cups of coffee a day had a 20% decreased risk of depression.

It has also been noted that regular ‘coffee drinkers’ were more likely to smoke and drink and less likely to volunteer in charity groups. However, drinking coffee does also decrease the risk of becoming overweight, having high blood pressure and it even decreases your chances of getting diabetes.

Some people may be unclear on how much caffeine is in items, so here is a list of items with the amount of caffeine in them;

. 1 mug of instant coffee – 100mg caffeine.
. 1 mug of filter coffee – 140mg caffeine.
. 1 mug of tea – 75mg caffeine.
. 1 can of cola – 40mg caffeine.
. 1 50g bar of milk chocolate – about 25mg caffeine.

You may now be thinking “I better make some coffee”. Well don’t do that right away! Researchers are not advising that you drink as much coffee possible, because they are still carrying out further testing on the effects of caffeine on chemicals in the brain. They have already discovered that too much caffeine can increase your anxiety level and disturbs sleeping patterns!

(There is no limit for how much caffeine you should be consuming a day, so no need to panic and cut down on coffee!)
