A young girl put into a coma after a family shooting has been taken out again,

Zainab al-Hilli, a girl of just 7 years, witnessed the murder of of her father and 2 other women (suspected to be the mother and grandmother) on Wednesday whilst sitting in her family car.

At some point before 4pm on Wednesday, the 3 aforementioned adults and a cyclist were brutally shot in what appears to be a contract murder. Zainab was beaten to the head by a blunt object and left to die at the side of the road. A former Royal Air Force serviceman found the cyclist’s body, and subsequently the bullet-stricken, burgundy car. When he realised the child was still alive and breathing, he phoned an ambulance which took her to a hospital near the mesmerising town of Chevaline, where the group were staying.

However, her younger sister Zeena, just 4 years old, evaded the massacre by hiding underneath the legs of the dead women. She was only found when other visitors said the family had arrived with 2 children. Eric Maillaud, the prosecutor for the area, had this to say on the status of the toddler: “There was nothing to lead us to believe there was another human being in the car. She was invisible and completely silent. She’s only four years old. Can you imagine? This child stayed still and silent next to a dead body for eight hours.“

He added that she was so small she didn’t even appear on the heat detector. Fortunately, Zeena has returned to the UK in the safety of relatives, as there are severe fears that she may be targeted by the same killer. The doctors at the undisclosed hospital put Zainab into an artificial coma to improve the speed of her recovery but she has now been woken as her condition is stable.
