Ever since Habbo Hotel was created, betting and Casinos have been at the heart of the hotel. These Casinos can either make or break a Habbo, and many players have become rich through either Casinos or Grabbers. Betting within the Hotel also boosts the Habbo economy, and makes money for Sulake.
For the above reasons it hasn’t been seen as a possibility to ban Casinos and the like, but that was proved wrong with the latest statement released by the Danish Hotel. They have put a ban on such rooms, due to Danish Laws that prevents under 18s from gambling. Due to players being able to spend real money on the game, the laws had to be enforced throughout the hotel.
Along with banning Casinos, the hotel was required to stop furni that aided gambling – thus they disabled the Dicemaster, Holodice and Wheel Of Fortune (to name a few). In addition to this, Casino owners are now facing a permanent ban on their account.
At this moment in time, nothing has been announced about any future plan to roll this out across all Hotels, but as there are laws against minors being allowed to bet worldwide, I would assume that this could happen to them all. If this does happen, it could be devastating for Sulake because both profits and user numbers will drop. Although this would cause a massive problem for Sulake, it is not something that can be easily avoided as international laws are unavoidable when running a reputable company with many sites.
What do you think about the end of betting in the Danish hotel?
