Can You Hear Me Now?!0

Everyone has their favorite jam. We can all admit to cranking up the music when our favorite song comes on the radio. I admit it, I do it all the time. Have you ever stopped to think for a second… Is this okay? Do my ears enjoy this? The answer is no. In fact, according to the World Health Organization, more than 1 billion teens and young adults risk losing their hearing forever, from listening to music that’s too loud. If someone asks you to turn your music off or down, take their advice. Your ears just might thank you in the long run.

How is the volume of music damaging your hearing? After a while of listening to music at a high volume over a period of time, the structures in your ear will start to begin to weaken. This could cause tinnitus or muffled hearing. It’s just like when people start yelling at you or when people scream in your face. You don’t like that do you? Well, listening to music at a high volume is like that. The music is screaming into your eardrum and damaging it.

How many people are affected by damaged hearing from listening to music that’s too loud? According to UN Health Agency Worldwide, about 360 million people have suffered from moderate to severe hearing loss. Which is way too many.

Okay, so, how do I prevent hearing loss? You can prevent hearing loss by turning the volume down! The maximum should be 60%. I have noticed that with some phones, like Android, that when you are listening to music, or anything requiring volume, and you turn the music up above 60%. It will give you a warning about hearing loss, which I think is a wonderful idea

Take breaks! You can take a break after listening for half an hour. This will also help prevent hearing damage. If you only listen to music for an hour a say, this will also help to prevent hearing damage.

Wear noise-cancelling earbuds or headphones. These can help, but will be more important to take breaks. If you are in public places or events, like a concert, you should wear earplugs. These will help protect your ears from the loud booms at the concert.

There are apps to help! There are apps out there that monitor how loud you have your music up and will only let you listen to music in a certain range of volume. You can still hear your music, and it’s safer.

How can I prevent others from hearing loss as well? Spread awareness! Tell others about this! You could save someone from permanent hearing loss! Recommend an app to them. Whether they take your advice or not, it’s a smart decision and could be quite useful in some ways.

If you can hear their music when you stand next to them, it’s too loud! Suggest to them to turn it down! The person beside you should not have music up so loud. If you can hear their music well if you are far away from them, tell them and advise them to turn it down. The person beside you shouldn’t be able to hear your music sitting right next to you.

Your ears already know you love music, you don’t have to prove it to them. You don’t want to be in your mid 30’s asking,”What?!” All the time because you can’t hear. Music is still just as enjoyable with the volume down a bit. Save your ears and enjoy your music!

Why do you think so many people listen to music so loudly? What do you think about the number of people that have this happen to him?
