Every year, Britain waits for the day that they can finally see the John Lewis advert on TV. It’s the time Britain can say “Christmas is here” and actually mean it, instead of just meaning that Halloween has passed! Once again, the nation has fallen in love with John Lewis’s dog-themed advert. And, no, The Simpsons didn’t predict this part of 2016.

The long-awaited and emotional advert follows the story of Buster, a friendly boxer whose dream is to bounce on the trampoline bought for the daughter’s birthday. As the daughter is settled down for bed, Buster the Boxer stares longingly at the trampoline, watching other animals bounce joyously on it. The following morning, as the trampoline is revealed to the daughter, Buster races out and jumps up on it. The advert ends with “Gifts everyone will love”, followed by John Lewis’s branding and advertising. To some the advert is unrealistic, however, as it never snows on Christmas Day in the UK!

2016’s advert launch hasn’t been plain sailing for John Lewis, however. A media student fooled thousands with his Media Coursework – a John Lewis inspired advert. Oh, and people loved it. John Lewis also has Twitter troubles – with the handle @johnlewis being taken by a lovely man called John Lewis, whose bio reads:

“Computer science educator, father of four, social liberal, atheist, and not a retail store.”

Every year, he plays along and tries to respond humorously to every tweet he’s mentioned in, redirecting them to @johnlewisretail. Check out @johnlewis’s account on Twitter for a laugh, especially after all this presidential drama.
