Elisabeth Sladen known best for playing Sarah Jane Smith in the Sci-fi program ‘Doctor Who’ and from her own spin off series ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ has sadly passed away.
The actress died as a result of a long battle against cancer and passed away yesterday morning aged just 63. Elisabeth Sladen joined Doctor Who in 1973 and was one of the Doctors most popular and well known companions.
She was given her own spin off series, ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’, in 2007 and was introduced to a new generation of fans. She starred in Doctor Who first with Jon Pertwee, who was the third Doctor and then with Tom Baker who was the fourth Doctor. She then went on to appear in the hit series several times during 2008, 2009 and 2010.
In ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’, Elisabeth starred as an investigational journalist who was trying to defend earth from extra terrestrial threats. The lead writer and executive producer of ‘Doctor Who’, Steven Moffat, has said that she was a ferociously talented actress and Russell T Davis, the creator of ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ said that everyone connected to the series have been left reeling at the news of her death.
Elisabeth will be remembered for years to come, her passing marks the end of an era as it is expected that ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ will cease production.
