[Guest Article] Exclusive Interview with Ditch the Label!4
By - Posted 18th February, 2016 at 1:04 am Habbox

Ever wanted to know exactly what Ditch the Label is all about? Maybe you’ve heard the name floating around Habbo and want to know more about what they do? Habbox staff member FUNISMYME has kindly provided us with this exclusive interview with Ditch the Label staff member Sue.

When and why was Ditch the Label started?

“Our CEO, Liam Hackett set up Ditch the Label in 2012 after his own personal experience of a decade of bullying left him feeling alienated by existing provision which he found to be disempowering and ineffective. We are now one of the largest anti-bullying charities in the UK providing innovative support to over 180,000 young people each year, mainly on digital platforms.”

What is it that Ditch the Label does?

“We provide advice, support and interventions to young people affected by bullying. This extends to those who have been bullied and those who are bullying others. We also provide advice to parents/guardians and advice, plus support and training to teachers and other professionals and organisations involved in the safeguarding of young people. We further produce leading global research which better helps us understand bullying and its associated behaviours.”

Why has Ditch the Label been visiting Habbo lately?

“We have been the official charity partner of Habbo for over 2 years now and run regular anti-bullying support and intervention sessions on our Ditch the Label Infobus. Recently, in addition to these, we have been providing a serious of tailored sessions around LGBT issues, such as coming out as LGBT, Trans* awareness, debunking common myths around LGBT identity and LGBT bullying.”

Will there be any more visits in the future? If so, can you release any information for us?

“We have an ongoing programme of support sessions as part of our Habbo partnership, which we update via this link:

http://www.ditchthelabel.org/infobus/

Last but most important; if someone wants to get in contact with you, how do they do so?

“We can be contacted during our Habbo sessions and outside of that via:

Twitter: @AskDitch

Email: [email protected]

Also, a lot of support content can be found on our website here:

http://www.ditchthelabel.org/get-help/teens/

In an emergency or if you are in danger, it is important to call the Police on 999. If you or someone you know is self-harming or feeling suicidal call The Samaritans on 116 123 and to report child abuse call Childline on 0800 11 11

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Ditch the Label for taking the time to answer these questions. 🙂

i’ve went to quite a few of their infobus sessions and honestly, they are quite good in them but they do sort of try to be generic with their ‘you can stop bullying just by telling your bullies to stop!’ attitude. that, realistically, will not always help.

It will not always help thms, but it can go a long way in making them think about it.
