Lately, I have discovered that the population on Habbo has dropped. After discovering this, I started to do some investigating as that is what I do best. While I was searching around on to why the Habbo Hotel Population has dropped, I came to realise the whole reason why it keeps dropping. The answer to it would be Habbo Retros. Now in this article, I will be talking about Habbo retros from media parts that I have found and tweaked and also from my own point of view of why and how I personally think retros have been stealing our Habbo friends. Hope you like what I have to offer in this article. Let the reading begin.
This article contains information on sites that are illegal and not affiliated or endorsed by Habbo or Sulake. Due the unsafe and illegal nature of these sites, this article is for educational purposes only.
What is a Habbo Retro?
Well, some of you might not know what a Habbo retro is so let me explain what it is. A Habbo retro is a private server that mimics the style of the official Habbo Hotel site but is not operated or affiliated with Sulake. Operating a Retro Hotel is illegal due to the unauthorised use of the copyrighted material that is used to fully mimic the looks and operation of a real Habbo Hotel.
Types of Habbo Retros?
Old School
Old School retros are hotels that mimic the older versions of Habbo, usually from v1 – v17, hence the term “Old School”. These retros are very simple and have many features of the older official hotels. These features include logging in through the client, changing clothes on the hotel view and the notable Habbo Console. These types of retros do not depend on a website and as they are based on older versions of Habbo, do not benefit from any current development by Sulake, and are therefore vulnerable to old security issues, such as scripting.
Flash Hotels
These hotels are more up-to-date and they run like the latest version or a reasonable new version of an official hotel. These retros are more complex and have many more features. Including more furni, similar website designs, housekeeping and effects.
RolePlay Hotels
Roleplay Hotels, (also know as RP, for short) are hotels that run different server versions. In RP hotels, players take part in various activities which mimic real life situations. Users can take part in gangs, jobs, organisations and jail.
Disadvantages of Habbo Retros
- Malware – A few retro hotels are active to just simply install viruses, keyloggers and other bad things on the victims computer.
- Downtime – Some hotels are not committed to service and are not obliged to be online 24/7, although many retros are online 24/7, stability issues and legal issues may prevent them being online for long periods.
- Security – Owners of retro hotels and some members of staff have access to the user database, these means they can see usernames, emails, password and more information. It is common online safety knowledge to not use the same password for more than one site. If you used the same password as you have on Habbo on a retro, the owner or a member of staff from the retro could access your real Habbo account.
- Safety – Many retro hotels have arguments with each other and often attack one another. This can lead to downtime, loss of data and breaches in the database so other people access your sensitive information.
What is so popular about Habbo Retros?
Habbo Retros are popular for many reasons. One can be from the fact that every new account you get 10k credits or more. You Can Gamble and own a casino and profit really big. Also, you can buy rares that you would pay a fortune for on Habbo for 3c on a retro.
Habbo Retros continue to be a controversial topic in the Habbo community. Despite them being popular, most people do understand that they are illegal and refuse to use them because of this reason.
What do you think? Should we all leave Habbo and make these retros become even more popular (which is not recommended at all)? Or Keep playing Habbo and get those who play Retros back to playing Habbo?
Habbox does not promote the use of retros and despite there being what could be said as ‘advantages’; the disadvantages that include the risk of malware, reduced safety and reduced security outweigh those ‘advantages’. SO DO NOT USE RETROS!

Good article – puts the word out there of how bad they are 🙂
I have been playing habbo retros only because of the free credits. Habbo is too expensive to play, and there is always difference between the poor habbos, and the VIP/HC ones. I gave up on playing the real habbo because it was boring with no credits, and with no opportunity to build, and create stuff.

Habbo retros always have a problem because they always reset their economy, making the users who spend money on a retro upset when they could’ve went on habbo and spent that money on something that’ll be kept forever and never reset!
They aren’t the best but if you run your own just for you and your friends, it can be some fun if you can’t afford the real game.
