The Habbo Mute is something that was introduced to all hotels as a result of negative press coverage. The decision was made to mute the hotels due to security issues raised by the press, but the move was considered necessary to ensure that all issues were dealt with.

Sulake now believe that the security issues are fixed in the hotels. This has resulted in the return of a limited version of chat in many different hotels, the last of these being the international (.com) hotel.

This limited version of chat allows the user to talk using words that have been pre-approved by Sulake. Users also must complete a safety quiz prior to being allowed to chat at all within Habbo. All other features such as Private Messaging and Homepages remain disabled.

When using limited chat, you will know if your text is on the approved list as it will appear as standard black text. If what you write is not on the approved list, it will be shaded red. Unapproved text will appear as padlock symbols when speaking.

Sulake reassured users today that full chat will be restored to all hotels eventually, but users will have to earn the ability to use it. They also confirmed that the new ‘Guardian‘ program will be going ahead soon, and that it will be integrated into the new skill system. Specific details are still to be released, but the release of these details is expected to occur soon.
