Harley Bird, the voice behind children’s favourite Peppa Pig, is set to be a millionaire by the time she is 21!
The 16 year old has played the loveable children’s character since she was 5 years old and hopes to stay playing the character for as long as possible. It has also been revealed that the child star receives around £1,000 ($1,347) per hour working on the show, and she is raking in a total of £12,000 ($16,165) every week.
An unknown source at the show came forward and spilled some information revealing, “Harley is the most successful teenage voiceover artist in Britain right now. She’s also difficult to replace as she’s mature enough to be a great actress but still has the distinctive voice families around the world know as Peppa.”
As for the actress herself it hasn’t all been just about Peppa Pig for her. She did star in the 2013 movie How I Live Now playing Piper and starred alongside The Lovely Bones actress Saoirse Ronan, while also guest-starring on Doctor Who playing Ruby.
Harley came forward on a talk show and spoke about her thoughts on her character Peppa Pig, saying “I’ve done Peppa for 11 years now. I really understand the character. I know how she speaks, how she would do things, how she would react.” As for her voice and continuing to grow up, Bird has admitted that going from her own voice to the character’s isn’t very hard for her – however doing the giggles can require a bit more energy! “I have to change voices… I have managed to keep it the same throughout… you have to act through it.”
As for her job overall the children’s star has spoken out saying she is really happy to play a voiceover as she’s able to live like everyone else and not get as recognised as most other actresses for their work. “I don’t get recognised. I went the other weekend [to Peppa Pig world], I was on the dinosaur ride with my brother and everyone was giving me strange looks. Me and my brother were snorting and I was doing some lines*.”
The show itself has reportedly grown so popular that it is now worth an estimated £1.4 billion. It is unknown yet but rumours have come to light that a movie is also set to come out about Peppa Pig and will be set around 9 episodes put into a movie.
