Delays, cancelled flights, these are the words you don’t wish to see when you’re about to jet off for your summer holiday. Unfortunately flights can be delayed for many different reasons and most of us regular travelers will know you’re lucky if you take off on time… but some unlucky travelers had a 33 hour delay! What? 33 hours? Yes thats not a typo. Click read more to find out how!
It took 4 different planes and 33 hours for passengers to finally take off on a British Airways flight to Athens from London Heathrow. The flight, which was to due to depart at 1:15pm, was cancelled due to a fault with the aircraft. Another flight was found for the passengers at 5pm but it was another disapointment after their 2nd flight was also cancelled – this time because the crew had gone over their working hours due to a delay on previous flight. It’s already not looking good for them as they’re given vouchers for a night in a hotel and told to return the next day for their flight. That’s the last thing you want when you should be sat on the beach with a cocktail in the sun!
Finally, 24 hours later, they were sat on a plane ready to jet off… but just minutes after take off disaster struck again as after some strange sounds and a few bangs the right engine caught fire. Luckily the pilot shut down the engine and returned safely back to Heathrow, but passengers felt they were lucky to be alive. After 2 cancelled flights and 1 plane setting on fire the passengers were finally on their way to Greece at 7:40pm the day after they were supposed to board.
This really makes my 1 hour delay home not look too bad, and I don’t think I’ll complain… but maybe you’ve had your own nightmare flights? Let us know in the comments!
