I am back with another CPU highlight! I felt like going a bit retro with this one, and I guarantee as soon as I start talking about this game you’ll all become very nostalgic with me and rejoice in this epic game. If I told you that this game allowed you to become the world’s best roller coaster maker, and a serial killer all in the same game, what would you say? [Waits for responses]… Thought you might have said that! The game I am highlighting today is Rollercoaster Tycoon.
I remember receiving this game while opening up a box of cereal and being super excited. As a child growing up my parents wouldn’t buy us any video games, nor would they buy us any game they didn’t see fit for us. SO this was a real treat! (Relate with me everyone; you were once in my shoes!)
The game starts out very basic. You are in charge of making a grade A amusement park: From roller coasters, to water slides, right to merry-go-rounds and Ferris wheels. It was your job to bring joy to the computerized people who would immediately come into the park. This game also gave you objectives to complete to gain special access to certain rides, and other features. What was so realistic about this game was the weather that came with time. If it rained, you better have had umbrella stands!
With such intense roller coasters, you have people who would actually throw up! Isn’t that crazy?! You were awarded for having the most intense roller coasters. There would be some people that would love those types of rides, but there would be people who would jump at the gate and walk away. But don’t worry – this is where you, the maker of the park, had lots of control. You see – with this game you decide who lives and who dies. (Which is where the psychotic element of this game comes into play)
This is the morbid part of the game. While on a rollercoaster you could adjust speeds sending people launching into the abyss, where they would crash and die. If you really think, this game is the reason that some people couldn’t take care of things, because they would always want to try and destroy it. This was me, I was one of those people who, after completing all tasks and winning, would block off the exit of the park and start destroying the place. This included taking out parts of roller coasters so they would crash, making a hole and filling it up with water to drown people, and sending people into a walking panic. It’s kind of messed up, but let’s be honest – who didn’t do that!
What do you think of this game? Would you ever play it again if you had the chance?
Let me know what your favourite thing about the game was!
I’ve had this game for about 3 years but never installed it so maybe I should!! Although I think it’s an older version
I used to love the game. I have it on my laptop now but it’s not the same. 🙁
I used to love just making the parks!
Haha! Zitrone, you definitely need to try it. Hopefully it works. It’s such a funny game.. if you look at it now (All the “guests” look the exact same in the oldest version)
Got this on steam the other month, it’s pretty cool but i haven’t really played it /that/ much
