Apparently there have been thousands of people that have decided to opt out of the chaos that is Black Friday this year, with their own annual celebration of ‘Buy Nothing Friday!’. There’s a Facebook campaign of the same name which currently has the support of 30,000 people who simply want to stay indoors and relax on the busiest day of the shopping year!
The group even go as far to suggest many alternatives for how you can spend this Friday, including ‘going for a walk’, ‘hugging people’ and ‘getting together with friends’. A much more sensible option for the insanity known as Black Friday if you ask me. There have been many British born and bred people suggesting that you can just head down to the local library and borrow some books, or as one man jokes, he “can’t wait to not spend any money I haven’t got, on anything I didn’t need.” – which let’s be honest, is the most accurate description ever written regarding the day.
What a lovely day and age we live in, where a group of men and women would rather spend their day ringing up the parents to see how they’re doing, heading out for a walk to enjoy the autumn breeze or just giving your best friend a hug! Quite an uplifting and lovely concept if you ask me!
Well, I spent my Buy Nothing Friday doing just that, buying nothing. Instead, I took the most sensible option of hanging around Habbo for about 6 hours when I probably should have been completing one of the many essays I have… speaking of which, I should get on that!
Have yourself a lovely aftermath boys and girls, and think about your alternative next year!
