I wrote this article as I tried to recover from the terrible interview that I have had early last week.
As I drove 50 minutes to my fourth ever interview, I felt quite relaxed. I’m quite a nervous person but this was not a job that I needed, so I thought to myself ‘whatever happens, happens’.
I rock up to the interview 35 minutes early as I agreed to have a tour beforehand. The tour went great! I asked lots of questions, looked interested and just bonded nicely with the interviewer. Then the horror began. I waited outside the interview room, watching as three old ladies walked into the room, all holding notepads and a cups of tea. My heart sank as I realised that I was going to be interviewed by three old, fiery Welsh ladies. I walked into the room and the nerves started to kick in. I sat down and I was offered water, I said no, but she gave it to me anyway. Then the questions started. I was asked eight very specific questions, all very similar but yet all needed me to answer very differently. As I struggled to answer most of the questions, I was just praying to the heavens that the floor would open up and swallow me whole as the 20 minutes I was in there felt like 20 hours.
It has to be the worst interview I have ever had. I was physically and mentally unable to answer all questions and when I did, it was all bobba coming out of my mouth. I’m just lucky that the job I was interviewed for is not one that I really want; both the pay and the hours aren’t the best and it’s 45 minutes away from my house!
I really recommend not doing what I did and actually be prepared for all interviews, even if you think you will be able to blag your way through it. The embarrassment is real and lasts for a few days after. Overall, it was an experience I’ll sadly never forget and it really has taught me a lesson.
Have you had any terrible interviews that you will never forget? Or have you had some amazing interviews that went so much better than you expected? Comment below!
YES i had a terrible one once when i was sixteen and it was for game station. they asked stupid questions such as “if you were a game character, what would you be?” they didn’t ask any questions that were related to the job but really stupid ones pmsl
i meant who would you be bye
omg hahaha I would be like ‘the mushroom on super mario’
they asked me all really specific stuff like ‘if you were our marketing office and we gave you the task of marketing this please tell us exactly what you would do and how you would do it like word for word every single thing tell us tell us TELL US DRINK THIS WATER’
;( rip i didn’t get it though
Have another one this Thursday
oh deary me you poor thing. always accept their water, it’ll make them feel like they’ve done you a favour and strengthen your bond – plus, a dry mouth and nerves are not the best pairing for your confidence. I was once asked who I’d take to a dinner party and said ben & jerry so I could be in the presence of great men and get free icecream and the interviewer loved it x thanks habboxforum threads for asking weird questions over the years and preparing me well for the inevitable interview nutjobs.
aw no, poor you haha! luckily i’ve never had bad interview (yet) simply because i’ve only really gone for two and I thankfully got both of them – i think i’m just naturally confident so that helps heaps when going for things, but that doesn’t stop me from being nervous. i know the job i’ve recently gone for I literally had the sweats and I was wearing a grey tshirt, so there was no hiding from my guilt:(
sweaty betty!!!! loool. i said mario welshcake bc i can do everything :/ : \ i panicked but i was only 16 and didn’t care about the job anyway !
Same Joe!! I’m dreading having bad interviews 🙁 Think of it as a lucky escape though Lauren, if you were offered it you might have felt obliged to take it as it’s a job but you admitted you didn’t really want it anyway 🙂
Well, hopefully the one I have on Thursday goes a little bit better. It’s the job I used to have in the university but more flexible hours so I can still study in university and work there.
I would lit pee my pants if I got it.
Knowing me I’ll have that terrible interview in my head and it will go equally as bad. I had a bad feeling about that interview from the moment I realised I had left the top I wanted to wear at my parents house. It’s the tops fault… Not my crappy answers… Honest
GOOD LUCK for tomorrow then!!!
I have one on tuesday! I’m so scared! Only ever had one before and I got the job- that was two years ago. rip
Good luck Lauren!
