YouTube for Kids – Does it Work?0
YouTube is currently working to release a brand new app called ‘YouTube For Kids’. Does it remind you of Netflix for Kids? I wouldn’t be surprised if it did!
The application will choose videos based on strong algorithms which are automated for child content; human review will be another serious aspect of the development of the app. It will be scheduled for release based on Android devices Monday (2/23/2015).
Why is the application important? First of all, we know that YouTube does not tolerate pornographic videos and harmful content, but it still sometimes slips by, not coming down until it is reported. Many children are vulnerable to such cruel content and YouTube knows that safety is not completely assured.
Other features that this app will offer seem to be heading in a good direction for child audiences. They will not allow the search engine on YouTube to show or search for anything inappropriate, however commercials will still be the same, except optimizations to show adverts for younger audiences.
The app is endorsed by Common Sense Media, a group that is dedicated in the process of shielding children of content not intended for their age. Personally, I feel that this project will be successful.
