Ke$ha Scores First UK Number One Single!0
By - Posted 4th July, 2015

Ke$haUS pop singer Ke$ha has hit number one for the first time in the UK singles chart with her new single ‘We R Who We R‘.

The track serves as the lead single from her repackaged version of debut album ‘Animal‘, named ‘Cannibal‘, and since also hitting number one in the US and Australia late last year, has become her most globally successful single to date.

“That’s amazing!” she said, speaking on the phone to Reggie Yates on Radio 1 upon hearing the news. “This is my first UK number one and I’m obsessed with the UK so thank you so much! Genuinely, I love spending time in the UK, I’ve threatened not to leave before and the fact you took my song to number one means the world.

Ke$ha pushed ‘Grenade‘ by Bruno Mars down to number two in the singles chart, after reigning at the top spot for two weeks. His album ‘Doo Wops & Hooligans‘ is this week also number two in the albums chart, with Adele’s second album ‘21‘ becoming this weeks number one, with huge sales of 208000, the biggest so far this year. Her song ‘Rolling In The Deep‘ moves down to number three in the singles chart, down one place from last week.

Also in the singles chart, Diddy Dirty Money’s Coming Home‘ stays at number four, with electronic duo Chase & Status’ single ‘Blind Faith‘ rounding off the top five. Elsewhere in the singles chart, Britney Spears’ comeback single ‘Hold It Against Me‘ moves down two places from its peak of number six to number eight this week. Chris Brown also has a new entry this week at number ten with ‘Yeah 3X‘, his first hit single in years after his controversial abusive relationship with Rihanna, who is ironically one place above him in the chart at number 9 with ‘What’s My Name‘.

As a big Ke$ha fan I’m absolutely thrilled for her getting her first UK number one. I’m also really pleased for Adele’s success in the albums chart!

The Greatest Songs of the 2000s – Part Two0

Greatest Songs

Welcome back to our countdown of the Greatest Songs of the 2000s! In this second part, we will find out the next three songs that make up the top ten. In our first part, we began to unveil the top ten favourite songs, with massive tracks from Green Day, Kings of Leon, M.I.A., and MGMT. Click here if you haven’t already read the first part or you just feel like refreshing your memory. Done? Good. Time to continue the countdown…

Christina Aguilera - Beautiful6. CHRISTINA AGUILERA – BEAUTIFUL

Written by: Linda Perry

The second single from Aguilera’s fourth album ‘Stripped’  is widely regarded as her best song to date. The ballad, showing off the singer’s incredible vocal abilities, along with the great message of loving yourself won over the public and critics alike, with the song topping the UK, Australian, Canadian and many other European Charts, and narrowly missing out on the top spot in the US, peaking at number two. ‘Beautiful’ also won a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2004, whilst just missing out on Song of the Year.

When songwriter Linda Perry penned the track, she considered it very personal and important to her, and kept it hidden away a long time before anybody else heard it. At first, she showed the song to singer Pink who wanted the song to be on her album ‘Missundaztood’, but Perry wanted to keep it for herself. In a similar fashion, Perry showed the song to Aguilera whilst working with her, but declined the song to her even after being blown away by her rendition. In the end, she was convinced to hand over the song to her.

The song is musically very different to the rest of the tracks on ‘Stripped’, being one of the softer moments of the album, a moment that was the most praised critically. It is now considered her signature song, so perhaps she should stick to this kind of music as it seems to be her winning formula (Bionic, anybody?)!

5. THE KILLERS – MR. BRIGHTSIDE
Written by: Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning

The Killers - Mr. Brightside
The second single from the Las Vegas rocker’s debut album Hot Fuss, Mr. Brightside, has gone onto become one of the most anthemic rock anthems of the 21st Century. Listeners of XFM and Absolute Radio voted the song as the best of the decade – sorry, but the Habbox users evidently disagree!

It was originally released in September 2003 in the UK on a limited edition CD and 7″ vinyl, which sold out in just one week, giving The Killers a small amount of attention. This prompted them to record a new version, the version we all know and love today, just a month later, which was included on the album.

Mr. Brightside achieved respectable commercial success for the band. It has a huge place in the hearts of The Killers’ fanbase, being their big sing along track at live shows, being included on set lists for all of their tours. As well at this, released in 2004, the track charted at number ten on both the UK and US singles charts and sold over 200,000 copies in the UK, and over 2 million in the US! In 2006, it was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, which lost out to a live version of the song This Love by Maroon 5 (who didn’t make it in our countdown – who’s laughing now!).

As well as being a big hit with the fans, Mr. Brightside has also been covered by many big name artists, including McFly, Fall Out Boy, Coldplay and Amy MacDonald. I guess none of them have anything on the original wink.gif.

Eminem - Lose Yourself

4. EMINEM – LOSE YOURSELF
Written by: Eminem, Jeff Bass, Luis Resto

Release in October of 2002 from the soundtrack of his movie 8 Mile, this epic song was written by Eminem, based on the character he plays in the movie, B Rabbit. The rapper infact wrote the song on set whilst filming the movie, and recorded all three verses in a portable studio on the set in one take. Lose Yourself features a piano interlude, preceding the start of a beat which contains a memorable guitar loop, which incorporate slight rock elements to the song.

Lose Yourself is Eminem’s most successful single to date. Selling bucket loads and topping the charts in 24 charts across the globe, including spending twelve weeks at the top of the US and Australian charts – its release was absolutely massive for the Detroit rapper. In 2002, it even won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, the first rap song ever to do so. It beat U2, who were the strong favourites to win. Even Em himself was amongst the belief he would not win, so he didn’t even bother to attend the awards. Apparently he was asleep at the time he was announced winner, meaning it was the first time in 14 years the winner of that particular award didn’t perform at the ceremony… oops. In 2004, the song also won two Grammys for Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song.

This song truly stamped Eminem’s name firmly on rap music forever, establishing him as an icon, and it will go down in history as one of the most loved and most successful rap songs ever. Rightly so – it’s brilliant, and only very narrowly missed out on the top three.

We are now only three songs away from finding out what Habbox’s favourite song of the 2000s is! Make sure to check back here this Friday to find out the top three songs. See you then!

Back to the cold!0
By - Posted

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTCiQnPtjtWagnzcRXDZYMThe cold weather has came back to the United Kingdom!

Cold weather is expected to return this week. Parts of the south east will see cold winds and snow from Thursday, but there will not be a return of the sub – zero temperatures seen in December, when the deep freeze caused chaos for millions of travellers.

In England and Wales, the temperature forecast is between 1C (34F) and 4C (39F), which is slightly below average for January. Weather forecaster Gareth Harvey said there may be a few flakes of snow but no big accumulations are expected. He added that the snow could appear anywhere across the country but it is due to be concentrated in the south east. Last month was one of the coldest ever recorded in the UK.

I’m so glad its not going to the temperatures it was in December, but I really hope it will snow alot.

I'm an Addict0

I know I have problems. I just can’t stop scoffing sweets! Anything with high amounts of sugBingear in I want to gobble up! I guess you could say I’m addicted to sugar…. and that’s probably right.

From looking at me you probably wouldn’t guess that I am, not that I look extremely healthy, but I’m quite thin and not large like you would expect someone who only eats sugary foods. It’s not just food; I also only drink fizzy drinks which probably doesn’t do my teeth a whole lot of good. It is definitely diet I wouldn’t recommend… I wouldn’t say I feel ill all the time, but after a binge, I do feel a bit sick. It seems a good idea when I am buying the sweets, and while I’m eating them it definitely seems a good idea, but about half an hour afterwards I feel extremely sick. It’s not just me suffering though, my wallet is also suffering. I spend A LOT on sweets and fizzy drinks! I usually spend between £10 – £20 a week. And I’m funding it out of money I have laying around, this is Christmas money, birthday money, pocket money, savings, everything. I know that I am wasting my money but I have no self-control or discipline!

My typical daily sweet intake: cans of Coke, 1 two litre bottle of Irn Bru, 1 or 2 small chocolate bar(s), 1 packet of Mint Imperials/Lemon Sherbets, Kinder Buenos + anything else I fancy.

This is definitely not a diet I would recommend and I am trying to take steps to limit my sweets intake! I’d love to hear your opinion on my diet so do leave your comments!
