I lost my faith a long time ago. It just didn’t seem right to believe in a God that had dealt me such a hard hand. I knew I was different ever since I was little. I thought different, acted different and I certainly looked different. In the workplace you’d call me a box ticker. Gay AND disabled.

I wish I could say life was rough for me and tell you how I battled through it. Truth is, it could’ve been worse. I think a lot of what happened in my life I ignored. You learn to become ignorant. I’ve always felt like God was Santa to adults. You know he’s not real but a part of you wishes he was. Part of me wishes he was. Then I read about bishops and priests and how they condemn gays.

I watch footage of ministers in Africa quoting the bible to back their prejudice. People judge others based on a book of stories. Random words.

I’m a scientific thinker. If you can’t prove it, I don’t usually believe it. I’ve always had to. Bullying, that’s real. The not wanting to go into school, the pretending to be ill, the wondering if you’ll ever see the light of day. That’s real. You could say I had the faith beaten out of me. Not literally but emotionally. I gave up.

When I was younger, I used to pray. I used to get on my knees and pray to God I wasn’t gay. That it was a phase. Then I’d pray I wasn’t disabled. I used to pray that i’d be normal. It never helped. Instead I had lad mates refuse to touch me or let me near them, I had people whisper about me. I always say I’ve never experienced homophobia but I was blind to it I guess. My high school was no better either.

Racism was not allowed, it was discrimination. There would be assemblys about it, lessons based around it but yet homophobia was never addressed. It was taboo. Guess they didn’t want to upset the Conservative-voting parents and people who donated to the school.

I lost my faith in God and I lost my faith in people but what’s life if you don’t have anything to believe in. I feel empty sometimes, it’s a lot of pressure. You see, when anything bad happens or they’re scared, those who believe can turn to God. Offload their problems. Me, I’m stuck with them. There’s nobody to look to for answers or for hope. The only faith I have left…

Is faith in myself.

Requiem for Darkness0
By - Posted at 9:07 pm

On a black summer’s evening,

As the lightning cracks the sky,

And the rain descends from the heavens above,

The air is split by an evil cry.

While the darkness is falling,

Blooming into night,

On the plains of death an army masses,

Extinguishing the light.

High up in the mountains,

 Wicked laughter rings,

As the fires of hell scorch the land

And fly upon black wings.

As shadow flows across the realm,

Consuming all it meets,

People perish in flames of ruin,

Burning in the heat.

Demonic forces ravage the world

That once was green and lush,

The vivacious life that once was there

Drowned by evil’s hush.

Innocents’ bones litter the earth

And the rivers run red with blood,

The crimson fluid of life

Churning into mud.

Centuries of darkness pass,

Filled with death and pain,

And through the hell that plagues the world,

Darkness maintains its reign.

But somewhere in the distance,

The clouds begin to break.

A heavenly light shines through the gloom

And the ground begins to quake.

From the shining rift

An immaculate light emerges

And from fissures in the earth

A wave of darkness surges.

Then the rival forces meet,

Clashing way up high,

Light and dark and dark and light,

Roiling in the sky.

An eternity it seemed to last,

That battle far above,

And with what seemed its dying strength

Over darkness light triumphed.

Then all there was was silence

Across the desolate plains,

And though it seems that light had won,

Still there was evil’s stain.

And even though the land was scarred,

The sun began to shine,

And the people of the land returned,

Seeking what solace they could find.

Though death will forever be,

That is nature’s way,

Through the dark and hurt and pain,

Hope will find a way.

The Killers are back!0
By - Posted at 9:07 pm

One of the most famous alternative rock bands from all over the world have just announced their return from a years break and to welcome them selves back they’ve agreed to play at the Lollapalooza! Don’t know which band I’m tallking about? Well it had to be The Killers!

This amazing band formed in 2001 and was inspired by one of the most music changing bands in all of history, Oasis. When the lead singer Brandon Flowers saw them live he said to himself that he must make a band and that he did. He met up with his fellow band members which are Dave Keuning, Mark Stoermer and Ronnie Vannucci then started to scribble some lyrics down to create their first album which was indeed, Hot Fuss

Hot Fuss was the perfect first album that any other artist/band could make. This very album made The Killer’s reputation go flying up. It consists of the three most famous songs by them which are Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told Me and All The Things That I’ve Done.

So back on to the subject from talking about the band itself, they are definitely back! Their welcome back show will be held at the Lollapalooza along side with some other very famous bands/artists such as Kanye West, 30 Seconds To Mars, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs! If I could I’d book tickets as I’ve seen the great line ups, so get buying!

HTC Wildfire0
By - Posted at 9:07 pm

Hi ppl im goin 2 do dis hole article in txt spk bcos it is abt a new smrtfone!

Only joking!Image of HTC Wildfire

A couple of months ago, I managed to get my hands on a HTC Wildfire which is simply the best phone I’ve had in years. I’ve seen a few people on HabboxForum asking the phone, so I figured I’d post a quick review here.

To start, it’s known as one of the best, budget smartphones on the market at present, posing as the younger brother to the more up-market HTC Desire (HD). However, this phone really shouldn’t be undermined. It has one of the best screens out there in terms of quality and size and comes with Android 2.1 which can be instantly updated to 2.2. May I add that it’s also well worth the update!

Click Read More to see the rest of this review!

The HTC Wildfire has all you could need on a phone: Maps, Navigation, Email, SMS and of course the ability to choose fromthousands of applications in the Market. I found the navigation to be particularly useful actually, while driving down to Birmingham the other week; the GPS picks up your exact location on the road and tells you where the traffic starts and stops.Little things!

Back to the phone itself – it’s terribly easy to use which can be charged through USB or mains and the camera is pretty good too. Not the best obviously; but naturally if you wanted to be David Bailey then you’d buy a camera!

Phones4U had an offer on the other week selling it for £129 on the O2 network. A quick piece of advice: do some research into whether the phone comes unlocked or not. Luckily we asked the salesman and, being the nice chap he was, he told us it did come unlocked but he wasn’t supposed to say!

Happy texting!

Greatest Songs of the 2000s – FINALS!0
By - Posted at 9:07 pm
Despite the delay, we are back with the final part of the Greatest Songs of the 2000s countdown! So far we have seen your top 7 favourite songs of the last decade (part onepart two), and it’s now finally time to reveal the top three… Who will nab the top spot? Let’s read on!

Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love?

Written by: will.i.am, Taboo, Apl.de.ap, Ron Fair, Printz Board
‘Where Is The Love’ was the breakthrough for the hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas, on the groups first song to feature new member Fergie. It is a little known fact that before the album ‘Elephunk’ (which this song was the lead single for), the Peas had already released two albums (without Fergie) that helped make a name for themselves on the underground rap scene.
The origins of the song date back to December of 2001, when frontman will.i.am wrote the chord progression and a loop that formed the basis of the track. He wrote his verse along with fellow members Taboo and Apl.de.ap, when they were introduced to the former NSYNC member Justin Timberlake, who was yet to dominate the world with his solo material, by new band member Fergie. He then helped the band, by writing and singing the chorus. However, Timberlake’s label were worried that appearing on ‘Where Is The Love’ would give him some serious overexposure, and tried to persuade him to pull out of the song. The Peas fought to keep him, and in the end he remained on the song, but didn’t receive any writing or artist credits.
The song became a modern day anthem of peace, with lyrics tackling terrorism, racism, war and political issues. The Peas scored big upon the release of the song, gaining critical and commercial praise from all over the world. It became their first top ten hit in the US, and reached number one in Australia and the UK, where it achieved the most success, becoming the top selling single of 2003, and the 25th best selling single of the decade. It was also nominated at the 2004 Grammy Awards for the prestigious Record of the Year, and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Unfortunately it won neither, but it would have been different if things went my way! Brilliant song.

Lady Gaga - Poker Face

Written by: Lady Gaga, RedOne
Oh, Habbox! I knew I could count on you to get a Lady Gaga song in the top ten!
Following on from the immensely popular hit ‘Just Dance’, ‘Poker Face’ is the second single from Lady Gaga’s massive debut album ‘The Fame’. Originally released in late 2008, the track went on to be arguably the biggest hit of 2009, being the biggest selling single of 2009 in the UK, and the second biggest in the US and Canada. Despite being released close to the end of the decade, it was the 4th biggest hit of the 2000s in Australia, 15th in the UK, and 42nd in the US. ‘Poker Face’ really made people pay attention to Gaga, and made it known that she was not just a one hit onder, scoring her second massive number one hit in all major music markets.
Gaga wrote the song with now world famous producer RedOne, during sessions where they also recorded ‘Just Dance’ and later hit ‘LoveGame’. Like most of the RedOne produced tracks on the album, ‘Poker Face’ is an electro-pop song with catchy synth riffs and hard hitting dance beats, combined with Gaga’s knack for writing a catchy pop chorus. Lyrically, Gaga revealed on Jonathon Ross’ BBC show in 2009 that the song was based on her expirience of having sex with men, whilst fantasising about women… Who would have known?
‘Poker Face’ received a lot of critical praise, with most critics calling it the stand out track from ‘The Fame’, with one reviewer in particular claiming that the song had helped Gaga to refresh the world of pop in the US and UK! While ‘Poker Face’ may have not achieved this alone, Gaga has certainly been a major driving force in pop music in the last few years of the decade, and I’m certain she will play her cards right (see what I did there?) in the decade to come as well.

Rihanna - Umbrella

Written by: Terius Nash, Kuk Harrell, Chris Stewart, Jay Z
When Chris “Tricky” Stewart, Kuk Harell and Terius Nash were messing around in the studio with a drum loop on Garage Band, I highly doubt they realised that what they were creating what would go on to become the biggest hit of 2007, one of the most successful songs of the 2000s, and of course members of Habbox Forum’s favourite song of that decade! Rihanna must have felt pretty lucky that she was blessed by the trio with the rights to record this great song. It was originally meant for Britney Spears, and then Mary J Blige. Third time lucky I guess!
The song is a mid-tempo R&B jam, with elements of hip-hop thrown in by Jay Z, who features on the track with a guest slot at the beginning, which received mixed critical reaction. Rihanna’s now famous “ella, ella” hook after the chorus has become somewhat iconic, with Tricky Stewart stating in an interview with MTV “When [Rihanna] recorded the ‘ellas,’ you knew it was about to be the jump-off and your life was about to change if you had anything to do with that record.” He wasn’t wrong!
‘Umbrella’ has become Rihanna’s signature song, hitting number one in all major music markets, and has been performed as the encore song on both of her last world tours. Not to mention the fact that the song was number one for an astonishing ten weeks straight in the UK, becoming the country’s longest running number one single of the 21st century. Imagine the party for that one! Rihanna, you can stand under our Umbrella any day after this massive hit…
Here is the final top ten…
10. MGMT – Time To Pretend
9. Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams
8. Kings of Leon- Sex On Fire
7. M.I.A. – Paper Planes
6. Christina Aguilera – Beautiful
5. The Killers – Mr. Brightside
4. Eminem – Lose Yourself
3. The Black Eyed Peas – Where Is The Love?
2. Lady Gaga – Poker Face
1. Rihanna – Umbrella
So there you have it! As well as learning the most popular songs of the past decade according to you, we have also today learnt that Lady Gaga is a very good liar, Rihanna is extremely well prepared for bad weather, and Christina Aguilera loves basically everybody. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed the ride!
